Cardinals Split With Falcons in Baseball

On the road against University of Texas of the Permian Basin, the Incarnate Word baseball team split a Heartland Conference doubleheader on Saturday, losing 7-0 in game one and getting an 6-3 victory in the second game.

 UIW (17-5 overall, 17-3 in conference) was shut out in the first game despite getting six hits, with Keith Vasquez getting his first loss of the season. In the second game, the Cardinals came back from three runs down in the 6th inning, scoring three runs in the sixth and seventh for the victory.

Leroy Urbina was 1-for-2 in the game, but his single brought in two runs. Matt Roohan was 3-for-3 and hit his first home run of the year, getting two RBIs.

Ethan Lutz got the win, improving his record to 2-1 on the year, and Alfredo Caballero got his second save of the year.

The Cardinals will be back on the road against St. Edward’s University next weekend.
