The Newman University women's cross country team has been named a 2009 NCAA Division II USTFCCCA Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Monday. The Jets are one of 100 teams to receive such an honor.
Newman is one of just two Heartland Conference schools to be named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team. Incarnate Word was the only other representative from the Heartland Conference. The Jets posted a 3.36 combined grade point average as a team.
To be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, a team must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship, and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative grade point average.
Newman finished third in the 2009 Heartland Conference Cross Country championships, and 17th in the 2009 NCAA South Central Regional Championships.
