OPSU Volleyball Plays Well in Season's First Matches

Story By: OPSU Athletics

The Oklahoma Panhandle State volleyball team began the 2010 season by playing well over the weekend and also spending a great deal of time on a bus (from Goodwell to Shawnee, Oklahoma—then from Shawnee to Commerce, Texas—then from Commerce back home to Goodwell . . . over 850 miles).

They played their first match of the season last Friday in Shawnee against St. Gregory's and fought hard to earn a 3-2 victory.

On Friday, they were in Commerce to compete in a tournament hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce. In their first match of the day, they ran over Arkansas-Monticello in three straight games (25-17, 25-22, and 25-23). Also on Friday, they faced a good team representing A&M-Commerce and lost a very close 3-0 match (23-25, 21-25, and 26-28).

On Saturday, they were in more tournament action and dropped their first match of the day 3-0 (22-25, 12-25, and 20-25) to Southern Arkansas. To close the tournament on Saturday, they went against an experienced team representing Tarleton State and lost 3-0 (9-25, 20-25, and 16-25).

OPSU (now holding a season record of 2-3) will have their home opener on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. against Eastern New Mexico. They are a hard working group of student athletes and watching them perform this year should provide fun entertainment for the entire family. OPSU volleyball games are open to the public free of charge.
